Different Types of Pollution
There are seven main types of pollution: air, water, land, light, noise, thermal, and visual. Air pollution is the contamination of air by smoke and harmful gases, such as smog. Land pollution is the degradation of the Earth’s surface caused by misuse of resources and improper disposal of waste like landfills. Light pollution is the brightening of the night sky caused by the use of improper lighting of communities. This inhibits our sight of the stars. Noise pollution is any loud sound that harm animals or humans. You can easily see and hear this pollution in many busy cities, like New York City or Tokyo. Thermal pollution is the increase of temperature due to human activity. Visual pollution is anything unattractive or visually damaging to nearby landscape. Water can be polluted by industrial waste spills contaminating groundwater, farm runoff, raw sewage, radiation spills, etc. These pollutions have heavily damaged our environment and our economy.
